Our Prep students have exciting options for co-curricular music, dance and drama groups. Some co-curricular groups are specifically for Years 7–8 students, to nurture their skills and confidence. Other groups give Prep students opportunities to practice and perform with older peers. Several groups are also lead by Years 12-13 students which provides good role modelling for Prep students.

Years 7–8 Music & Drama Tuition

Our Prep students can have tuition in music and speech & drama. Our music tuition programme can provide specialist tutors in a wide range of traditional and modern instruments, music composition and songwriting. If a student has a passion for an uncommon instrument we do our best to find expert tuition. Students can take music exams through Trinity College and the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music. Students who receive speech & drama tuition can earn qualifications from Speech NZ. Our tuition programme is designed on rotation so that students do not consistently miss the same curriculum classes. Tuition in music and speech & drama complements our performing arts programmes by helping students to develop skill, confidence, and discipline which enhance all their learning. Years 7–8 Performance Opportunities

Our Prep students have exciting opportunities to grow as performers. St Peter’s has a busy and varied calendar of cultural events and our students in co-curricular groups regularly participate in inter-school, regional, and national competitions.

Performance opportunities for Years 7–8 students:

• All Years 7–8 students take part in our House Music Competition.
• School cultural events including STARS (St Peter’s annual talent contest), Dance Showcase, Kammermusik, Composition Competition, and Gala Showcase give Prep students opportunities to performs individually or with friends.
• Students who receive instrument or vocal tuition are encouraged to perform in the Bevan Cup Competition.
• Students who receive speech & drama tuition are encouraged to take part in Drama Cup Day.
• Years 7–8 students can audition for roles in the Prep Production.
