These students are well known to the St Peter’s community, but we did a little Q&A session with them to help you get to know them a little better. We are excited to see their leadership skills develop even further next year.

HEAD BOY - JONATHAN KHALIL

How do you feel about your selection as a head student?

To be perfectly honest I'm a little nervous! We've had some amazing head students over the last few years meaning we've left big shoes to fill. I'm really excited, however, to have this opportunity and with such a great team I'm sure we can get the job done!

What do you think you will bring to the role?

The values I will try and bring to the team next year are optimism, organization and a good work ethic. These are three key values I believe are essential to being a great leader.

How has St Peter’s helped your leadership skills?

St Peter’s has been developing my leadership skills since day one of Year 7. Every opportunity from leading a class game, to organizing a social or speaking to new parents about my time here has developed a strong foundation to set a good example for others and serve my peers.

What subjects are you taking next year?

Chemistry, Physics, Drama, Mathematics and Statistics, and English Literature

What extracurricular activities do you do?

School production and other drama groups, guitar, rugby, and hockey. And also, if it counts, going to the gym.

HEAD GIRL - CHARLISSE LEGER-WALKER

How do you feel about your selection as a head student?

I am beyond grateful for this opportunity to be a head student. I think it will help me grow as an individual and help with my interpersonal skills. I am especially excited to work alongside other amazing student leaders and learn from senior leadership staff.

What do you think you will bring to the role?

I think I will be able to bring a lot of positivity to this role and be committed to making the school better and help to create an even better environment for the community of St Peter’s. I think I will also be a good role model for younger students and demonstrate the capability of being able to balance school with outside activities. I think I also work very well with others in a team environment and I know that will be key going into next year if we want to make the most out of the year.

How has St Peter’s helped your leadership skills?

St Peter’s has definitely helped me grow my leadership qualities from the young age of 12 in Year 7 when I was given my first leadership role as a prep leader. Being surrounded by awesome role models has also made me more aware of the different types of leaders.

What subjects are you taking next year?

Biology, Accounting, Calculus, English - Literature, and Geography

What extracurricular activities do you do?

I am in the Kapa Haka group. I am also heavily involved with basketball both in and outside of school. I also play touch rugby for school in the summer.

DEPUTY HEAD BOY - JASON NEL

How do you feel about your selection as a head student?

I feel honoured and proud to be selected as the Deputy Head Boy of St Peter’s for 2019.

What do you think you will bring to the role?

I want to ensure that the student executive reaches its full potential next year and this means, transforming positive student voice into action. I am confident that I carry the characteristics required which includes, a welcoming and caring nature, enthusiasm and organising skills to make our school’s visions a closer reality. Our Head Boy Jonathan Khalil is a top all-rounded man who I have very much respect for. I am willing to help when needed, for him to lead the school in the right direction.

How has St Peter’s helped your leadership skills?

I only started St Peter’s in Year 11 but, the school has greatly contributed to my leadership skills. I want to thank Mr Burden for always making students his first priority, Mrs Pollock for her help in my journey so far and Mr Baird, who is most dedicated and hardest working House Director I’ve ever witnessed. He’s positively changed the culture in Morris and I was lucky enough to be under his guidance this year.

What subjects are you taking next year?

Accounting, Economics, Business, Mathematics and English.

What extracurricular activities do you do?

I like to be a part of the team environment in football and rowing. Mr Herbert continues to run a great program and Mrs Wackrow has our eyes fixed on Maadi 2019.

I was lucky enough to be chosen to go to SGLI (Student Global Leadership Institute) in Hawaii earlier this year. I learned so many valuable skills that I will be able to use in my role as Deputy Head Girl.

My main extra curricular is rowing (coxing) where I was fortunate enough to be selected for the North Island U18 team this year. This is my 4th year coxing and Rowing has been one of many highlights of my time at St Peter’s.
