Performing Arts Festival

Our Performing Arts Festival is held at the end of Term 3, and is the culmination of many successful Cultural Activities. The nine day festival gives our whole school community the opportunity to partake in the rich Performing Arts programmes on offer at St Peter’s.

The programme for the festival is as follows:

Drama Cup Day
The purpose of this competition is to encourage those individuals and groups who receive tuition in Speech and Drama both within St Peter’s and in the community to enjoy a chance to display their skills and talents in a competitive arena.

Students are able to compete for a Drama Cup in either individual or small group situations.

Dance Showcase

The Dance Showcase is a public performance of curriculum and extracurricular Dance, including a variety of different dance styles and guest performers.  This is an evening event.

House Music Day
House Rock (evening)

Competitive Houses prepare three House items for the House Music Competition.

  • Junior Song (for Years 7 to 9) 10-25 singers
  • Senior Song (for Years 10 to 13) 10-25 singers
  • House song (a set song).  All members of the House are expected to be included in the song.

A theme for House Music is chosen each year by the Music Department, and this follows on to the House Rock competition, where each competitive House puts together a Rock Band which presents two songs.

House Music is a fantastic competition which really demonstrates School spirit at its peak.

Gala Concert
The Gala Concert is an evening of St Peter’s finest musical talent.  This is a ticketed semi-formal concert at which our major groups and selected soloists perform.  Guest performers of the highest regard also perform at this special event.

Bevan Cup

The Bevan Cup Competition is an individual music competition.  The name ‘Bevan Cup’ comes from the trophy for Prep School students.  Senior School students compete for the Walton Cup.

Mulled Wine Evening

The Mulled Wine Evening is an evening of delicious nibbles and wine with outstanding music!  It is an opportunity for Senior Music students (Year 11 to 13) to have their final practical performances videoed and assessed in front of a ‘live’ audience. Performances may be solo or ensemble.

Kammermusik Competition
Composition Competition
The Chamber Music Competition (Kammermusik) is a competition for acoustic music making in a group setting.  There are two parts to the competition:

  • Duet/Duo class for matched or paired acoustic instruments
  • Ensemble class for acoustic instruments.  The group must have no fewer than three members and no more than eight.

The Composition Competition gives students an opportunity to present their songs and more classically based works in a competitive setting.  Students organise live performances of their works, and the pieces are then judged by an outside adjudicator, and awards given.

Principal’s Variety Concert
This concert is held on the last evening of the Performing Arts Festival, and is a representative concert of highlights from the previous week’s performances.  It may include solo, ensemble, House Music, Rock Band and demonstration items. This concert is open to the whole School Family, and features some of our most talented artists.
