St Peter’s Rowing Graduates doing well on both sides of the Equator!


U23 World Rowing Championships in Trakai, Lithuania

Three former St Peter's rowers competed for NZ at the U23 World Champs, with Lucy Spoors picking up a well deserved Bronze medal in the Women's 4X event in a very tight race.

Georgia Perry competing at her first U23 World Champs in the Women's 4-battled it out and was among the top three for most of the race until the Russian crew sprinted from nowhere to claim the bronze medal by less than a second, to push Georgia's crew into a well fought 4th place.

Chris Morrison also attended the U23's for the first time placed 6th in the very competitive Men's 4- event, after having a superb race in the semi-final to qualify for the final.

 

Youth Cup, Sydney, Australia

St Peter's was well represented in the NZ U21 Youth Cup team that competed on the Sydney Olympic course during the holidays. With current students Ellie Dowse and Matthew Dunham and Head Boys Coach Roger Batley, along with former students Ashleigh Hodge and Briar Murphy in the team.

The NZ team claimed the overall team trophy with some dominating performances. Matthew Dunham picked up three gold medals (Lightweight Men's 2X, Men's 4X ad Men's 8+), with Roger coaching Matthew in all three events.

Ellie Dowse and Ashleigh Hodge rowed together in the Women's 2- to pick up a Silver Medal and then combined with their team mates to pick up gold in the Women's 4- and Women's 8+. Briar Murphy came home with two gold medals in the Women's 4X and Women's 8+ events.
