NZ U16 Nationals 2011

Andrew van der Vyver was top seed at the recent NZ U16 Nationals in Wellington.  He took a few matches to get going but showed unbelievable fighting spirit by saving 3 match points in one of the earlier rounds and also fighting through a very tough 3 set semi final to reach the final.
It left top seed Andrew playing fellow Waikato player, 9th seed Adam Gage-Brown, in the final. All the close matches leading up to the final made Andrew very sharp for the final winning it in straight sets.

Congratulations for Andrew for winning yet another National title.

NZSS Tennis Finals 2011

St Peter's boys tennis team have won gold! and the girls have won silver!

St Peter's boys tennis team have won gold at the NZSS Tennis Finals in Albany for the 4th consecutive year beating Westlake in the final.

The experienced team of Andrew Van der Vyver, Jamie Yates, Jordan Fleming and Jonathan Merchant went unbeaten in all 5 matches this week. The St Peter’s girls team claimed Silver with a very young team consisting of Heidi Stewart, Ella Hassall, Tahlia Walsh and Rangimarie Wirihana-Tawake. They lost to a classy St Kentigern’s side in the final, but the future looks promising with all players except Heidi attending their first NZSS competition.

Well done to the team and coach Gerrit Steenkamp and Managers Janet Fleming and Pip Yates.
