St Peter's Equestrians Named in Show Jumping New Zealand Squads

New Zealand Talent ID Squad for 2017/2018 Show Jumping Season

St Peter’s is well represented by current and former students in the 2017/2018 Show Jumping New Zealand National Squads announced yesterday.

Drew Carson.

Stable of Stars rider Drew Carson and Year 13 student Nicola Hammond have been selected for the Talent ID Squad.

Former student Ally Carson is named in the Youth Programme Squad.

Drew and Nicola are in a squad for riders 25 years and under, who are capable of being selected for Young Rider Oceania teams (21+ under), consistently winning Young Rider classes at Premier shows, and recording clear rounds in Grand Prix and Premier League classes.

The new programme includes funding on a sliding scale for squad riders to attend three training camps throughout the season and a special fully funded clinic from world-class international coach Rob Ehrens.

There will also be a strong focus on Individual Performance Plans for squad riders which will be completed at the September North Island and South Island camps as well as presentations and seminars on topics such as sport psychology.

The new programme aims to assist New Zealand riders in reaching the next level, and incentivises the Show Jumping performance pathway by adding value for riders through comprehensive training and development.

Nicola Hammond.
