St Peter's 1st XV Defeats Rathkeale College

Final Score 52-6

St Peter’s has defeated Rathkeale College conclusively in their last round robin game of the CNI competition.

Patrick Lui, Peni Finau, Paula Mahe and Oliie Norris all had strong running games.

The team made the long trip down to Masterton for the match.

They were greeted with beautiful sunshine, but a heavy playing surface.

Rathkeale started well and brought a lot of passion and intensity. They dominated early possession, but the St Peter’s defence was up for the task, working well to nullify Rathkeale’s attack.

The St Peter’s big ball carriers then started to get across the advantage line. Andrew Viane scored first for St Peter’s.

St Peter’s showed great structure and were happy to control the ball and build pressure. This led to the second try to blockbusting midfielder Paula Mahe.

A promising lineout drive from the 22 then earned St Peter’s a penalty try. At halftime St Peter’s were up 22-3.

St Peter’s were then able the lift the accuracy in the second half and managed five more tries. It was impressive to see the lead up work which went into creating scoring opportunities.

Final Score: 52-6.

This bonus point win has secured St Peter’s a spot in the semi-final playoffs. They will next face Wesley College in the semi-final this weekend.

Inspirational speech from the coach during the halftime break.
