St Peters 25 vs Tangaroa 0

Saturday 20th June presented the St Peters 1XV with a great clear day and their 1st preseason game for the 2020 season. The fixture against Tangaroa College had been planned for earlier in the year and continued an annual fixture from previous seasons.

After clear instruction on the game plan given by coach Will Helu, the group quickly got into their work and built pressure in the opposition 22. This pressure eventually resulting in their first try after good work from the whole team.

The team worked off the back of a good kicking game to play in the right areas and maintained pressure on their opposition through-out. When the opposition did have the ball St Peters kept their shape on defence, with good line speed, managed to limit the opportunities that Tangaroa College had. With the couple of breaks made by Tangaroa being closed down by a good scramble defence.

Towards the end of the 1st Half the team put together a period of 6 phases on defence before the opposition turned the ball over – something that had been asked for by the coaches. St Peters ran through their plays on attack which resulted in a further 4 tries being scored.

All in all a good first full game for the group, with some pleasing aspects and also a number of work on's for the next game. The 5 tries was a good reflection on the teams understanding of their game plan. However the nil score from the opposition is a measure of the effort each player put in to their game.

The next preseason game will be against Hamilton Boys High School this Saturday 27th June, another opportunity for the group to test themselves before the start of the CNI competition at the beginning of Term 3.

U15

After an extended pre season training period, the boys were chomping at the bit to get back on the field. With 18 players the team travelled over to St Pauls Collegiate for a pre season hit out. The game started very well seeing St Peters score two great tries by Charlie Stewart and Maraekaiti Nepia. St Pauls showed great determination to stay in the game after struggling field possession. With their large squad of players, St Pauls rolled on some fresh legs throughout the game and in the end ran away with the result. The game was played in great spirit and the team is excited to kick off in Term Three.

U14

This was the first hit out in St Peters colours for a number of these boys. They had a pre season game against Cambridge High School. With a hard fought game deserving of a 17-17 draw, Cambridge snatched a runaway try in the last minute of the game to seal the deal.
