St Peter's athletes excel

Talented St Peter’s athletes competed for their clubs over the weekend at the North Island Colgate Games in Taranaki.  

The Colgate Games are held in January every year and is the biggest athletics events for children aged 7-14 years.  

Henry Smith had a spectacular championship with four medals; bronze in the High Jump and 200m, Silver in the 400m, and gold in the 100m. Boh Ritchie ran strongly with an impressive finish in her 800m for gold and silver in the 1500m Maddie Waddell was a clear winner for gold in the long jump, gold in the 200m, and silver in the 100m.  She was also a member of the gold-winning 4 x 100m relay team. Georgie-Rose Boyd ran a huge personal best in her 80m Hurdles for bronze and was part of the gold medal 4 x 100m relay team. Emily Bennett and Dan Ritchie also competed in the sprints and jumps with some personal best performances.  Casey Atkinson ran well in the 800m and 1500m events.  

"The St Peter’s athletics programme is very strong and with some talented senior athletes graduating last year, these up-and-coming junior athletes are paving the way for the future with strength across all events," said Head Coach, Ange Russek.  

The school season kicks off with training Monday and Wednesday during the term and the St Peter’s School Athletics Sports on Friday, 5 March.
