A great weekend was had by our Junior 12 and under team at our Aqua knights Junior Zonal Swimming championships held in Hamilton the 12th-14th February. St Peter’s Swimming club had a team of 38 swimmers compete. The team was ably captained by Sam Ballantyne (Yr 8) and he was joined on the club team by Alyssa Lawson (Yr 7), Casey Shaw-Stranks (Yr 8), Rorri Conchie (Yr 8), Jessica Johnston (Yr 7) Brooke Kervin (Yr 8), Katie Taylor (Yr 8) and Sammie Visser (Yr 7).
This group of swimmers swam with a 97% percent Personal Best rate over the weekend and contributed hugely to our club point score with lots of top 10 finishes and improvements in ranking positions with large personal best swims so great job to our young preppies representing us at this event.
This event is the top Junior competitive event for swimmers in this region as we compete against other Waikato clubs, HBPB, Taranaki and BOP regions for our championships. This is one of the 4 zones in the country.
Congratulations to Alyssa Lawson Year 7 who broke 3 Waikato records for the 10-year girls with outstanding swims in the 50, 100 free and the 50 back alongside multiple top 3 swims in other events including Gold in the 100 BRS and a Gold as a member of the Regional relay team.
Congratulations also to Jessica Johnston year 7 who also podiumed and PBed for her age group in 11 year girls. Big mention to Sammie Visser also year 7 who personal bested 12 races of her 12 events over the weekend to improve her rankings by more than 10 spots in all the races she swam in.
Results were vast as we had over 220 races over the weekend across all swimmers in our club so please find results briefly summarised below for our St Peter’s School based swimmers acknowledging their achievements.
Alyssa Lawson – 7 podium finishes including 2 GOLDs and 3 Waikato 10-year age group records as well as all swims being personal best efforts
Jessica Johnston – BRONZE in the 200 BRS for 11-year girls and top 5 finishes in other events which is fantastic given she only turned 11 a few weeks ago.
Sammie Visser – Lifetime best swims in all races and swam our biggest PB improvement for one race with a 44 second PB in her 200 IM to finish 5th
Rorri Conchie – PB swims in her races and improved her ranking in all her swims
