The St Peter’s Cycling Team were out in force last week at the Track National Championships held in Cambridge over 5 days. This is the pinnacle event on the domestic calendar for New Zealand's top U15, U17, U19, Elite and Para cyclists. Eleven riders from St Peters competed at this event ( 10 representing Waikato BoP and one representing Auckland). Together the team had some outstanding results which is all the more sweet given the 2021 event was unable to be held. Many of these riders have been working hard to put in great performances on the boards at this level for two years so it was fantastic to see them give it their all.
Six St Peter’s riders claimed 8 National Titles in this event with some outstanding performances.
In the U15 Boys Elimination race Carter Paine took his first National Title which was to be the first of many medals at this event for the young U13 rider! Jodie Blackwood, riding under her Auckland Centre colours, claimed two National Sprint Titles in the Sprints and 500 Time Trial events - outstanding and powerful racing by Jodie. In the U17 Girls 5000m Scratch race, Millie brought her sprint legs to take the National Title in a gutsy race to the line. Kane Foster took the U17 Boys Scratch race National Title and the HF Litolff Trophy in a photo finish running at the line with enormous determination after a fast and furious race. Lewis Johnston proudly achieved his first National Title in the U19 Mens Points race after many years of determined riding and hard work. In a field stacked full of New Zealand's most talented riders, Lewis staked his claim at this level to take a lap on the field and secure the win in fine fashion!
In the U17 Girls 2000m Team Pursuit, Hannah Paine and Millie Wright were part of the team who took the National Title in a dominant yet composed race. Hannah again performed superbly in a gutsy race paired with another WaiBop rider taking the U17 Girls Madison National Title.
Lewis Johnston was also awarded the Levin Jubilee Cup for aggregating the greatest number of points in the Championship events. Tied on overall points, and in a great sporting moment, Lewis shared this Trophy with St Peter’s Cycling Alumnus, Oliver Watson-Palmer, last year's Cycling Captain.
25 Medals in total were earned by 8 members of our team in some gutsy and polished performances. Full details below:
Carter Paine - U15 Boys
Jodie Blackwood - U17 Girls
Hannah Paine - U17 Girls
Millie Wright - U17 Girls

Congratulations to all our riders, many of whom had top 10 finishes in what was a highly competitive event across all 5 days. Schools National events are coming up later in the year with so much more to come from this group and their fellow team mates.
