St Peter’s Swimming Club had thirty 12 and under swimmers race at the Waikato Junior Championships over the weekend of May 21st and 22nd. The event saw 188 race starts making for a remarkably busy schedule for our young people.
The team amassed a massive 93 percent personal best average for the weekend across the team with all swimmers contributing hugely to that success. St Peter’s School representatives were Megan Price, Kate Bushell, Alyssa Lawson, Luke Downey, Jessica Johnstone, Chelsy Hurt, Abby Hurt, Amelia Brotherston, Hugh Ballantyne and Briana Meyer-Rochow.
Wonderful contributions to our swims with Luke, Jessica, Amelia, Chelsy, Megan and Briana all getting through the weekend with 100 percent lifetime best swims, which is a wonderful display of mental focus over a 2-day long weekend of swimming.
Big ups to Abby, Chelsy and Briana all swimming at their first championship event and all equipped themselves so well and swam beautifully.
The team had 77 podium positions with Jessica (8 medals), Alyssa (11 medals), Luke (8 medals), and Hugh (7 medals) having multiple trips to the podium over the weekend. Kate also played a key role in both relays for a Gold and a Silver in those races.
The St Peter’s team also had a further 60 top eight swims from the young swimmers. One of the highlights of the meet were massive relay swims with the ladies team having a ding dong battle and coming up trumps with a Gold and the lad’s team also getting in on the gold medal action.
It is wonderful to again be part of a meet with parents and friends to watch these young people do what they love. A fabulous weekend for the team!!! Thanks also to our mountain of parent volunteers who help make the meet rock and roll.
