Cross Country results

Year 7 girls l to r Jemma Burke (third), Chelsy Hurt (first), Kate Henry (second).

With the number of cancellations our students have experienced recently, the team was determined from the outset not to contemplate cancelling this event, based on the weather forecast, despite many calls from parents, and staff about severe weather warnings!  This was monitored closely over the week. At 11.55 am on Thursday (35 minutes before the first race was due to start) and after a hefty downpour followed by a glimmer of blue sky, we made a call to go ahead.  What a great call it was, particularly seeing the fun, laughter, house spirit, and camaraderie of all involved – this is what sport is about!

When you cancel event after event, it is easy to lose momentum. Due to the flexibility and willingness of our staff to give our students every opportunity, they did not disappoint. We had students pushing themselves for the “targeted bonus points time,” personal best times and we had some excellent top 10 results – Year 9 – 13 will go onto the Waikato BOP Secondary Schools event next Wednesday. Year 7 – 8 will compete later in the year.

Deputy Principal, Jess Patrick addressed the students after the races, saying “this is a cross country event you won't forget – these are the events that make memories”. To the parents who supported – we are so glad you could come and see your children compete, it was great to have you on the side-line, the Parents' Association - the baking and treats were a thoughtful gesture and much appreciated. And a special mention to the maintenance team,  Carl Perry, Shane Knowles, Sara Cannon, Glen Taylor, Ange Russek (remote) who were the champions behind the scenes.
