Years 7–8 Academic Curriculum

Prep School (Years 7–8) at St Peter’s, Cambridge offers a holistic education and a wealth of opportunities for our students to discover and explore their interests and talents.

The New Zealand curriculum is implemented in all subjects, with teachers tailoring the programme to suit students of all abilities. The Years 7–8 curriculum is designed to integrate seamlessly with work covered in Years 9 and 10, including skills, understanding, knowledge and vocabulary.

Homeroom teachers provide a holistic approach to the curriculum. Students in Years 7 and 8 are with their homeroom class teacher for core subjects — Mathematics, English, Social Studies, and Health Studies — for approximately half of the teaching week. The homeroom teacher is the key point of contact for our Prep students and homeroom classes provide a tight-knit and supportive environment.

Our Prep students also have classes with specialist teachers, including Science, Technology, Physical Education, Art, Performing Arts, Religious Studies, and Languages. This gives students access to specialist facilities as well as secondary school teachers with a wealth of specialist knowledge. Specialist Subject Teaching

Learning is a mix of the traditional and the innovative. As a BYOD (bring your own device) school, technology is an integrated part of the curriculum. Students will use their device in most lessons alongside traditional learning methods and interactive group work. Self-guided projects, entrepreneurial enterprises, 3D printing, computer programing, animation, philosophy discussions and blogging are some of the stimulating and diverse learning activities your child can expect in our Prep School.
