We have a seamless teaching and learning pathway through the school to Year 13.
The goal is excellence for each student. Each student brings a range of talents and abilities. Our goal is to enable students to succeed academically in a holistic environment. St Peter’s students regularly produce results beyond expectation.
Year 9 and 10 students at St Peter’s have outstanding learning opportunities. The programme in Years 9 and 10 targets our emerging young adults by consolidating and building on their content knowledge and skills, readying them for the senior assessment years. We promote self-management, critical thinking skills and learning strategies designed to ensure that all learners are functioning to their potential.
Our core subjects are English, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Physical Education and Health, and Religious Studies. Students also choose option subjects from a range including: metal and wood technologies, digital technologies, performance sport, drama, dance, visual arts, and languages. Students have a choice of four options in Year 9 and two in Year 10. English has one extension class and mixed ability groupings in the other classes. Differentiated learning in Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies classes in Years 9 and 10 ensure that teaching is targeted to needs. In particular, IGCSE Mathematics is offered to students who would benefit from the extension opportunity to hone their skills prior to the senior assessment years.
Year 11 students sit NCEA (National Certificate in Educational Achievement). Students take six subjects. Multi-level study is available.
For Years 12 and 13 St Peter’s offers both NCEA and the two-year International Baccalaureate Diploma. Each learner is different so by offering two options there is opportunity for students to select the qualification that will help maximise their learning potential. Please contact us to discuss which option is best for your child.

St Peter’s has a scholarship programme in place for each subject and students are encouraged to enter for this prestigious award. The expectations of scholarship are that students can demonstrate high levels of synthesis and critical thinking in the subject. Approximately 3% of the population earn a scholarship in each subject. Entry is open to NCEA and IB students from any level.
