Swimming has been an academy sport at St Peter’s, Cambridge since 2009. Our Swimming Academy has produced a number of national titleholders at various age levels as well as New Zealand representatives. We have some of the best on-site facilities in New Zealand, including a 10 lane, 25 metre pool that is heated and variable depth, and a superb training gym. We have nationally renowned coaches who provide holistic, tailored programmes that develop talent and pathways for students to excel as swimmers.
Our junior squad caters for swimmers aged 12 and under. There are one-hour training opportunities from Monday to Saturday. Our students are encouraged to attend two or more training sessions per week. Our Junior Squad swimmers compete at club nights and local swim meets in preparation for racing in the Swimming Waikato Junior Championship.
Our bronze squad swimmers are encouraged to attend three or more one-hour training sessions per week (Monday–Friday). This squad competes at club nights, local meets and regional meets. Bronze Squad swimmers work towards competing in the Swimming Waikato Junior Championships and the Swimming New Zealand Junior National Championships.
Our silver squad swimmers are encouraged to attend four or more training sessions per week. Training sessions are available Monday–Saturday and are either 60 or 90 minutes in length. This squad also has the opportunity for a weekly gym training session. Our Silver squad swimmers competes in local, inter-regional and national swim meets. They work towards racing in the Swimming New Zealand’s Junior National Championships, National Age-Group Championships, and Division II Championships.
Our gold squad swimmers are encouraged to attend five or more training sessions per week. Training sessions are available Monday–Saturday and are either 90 or 120 minutes in length. Gold squad swimmers can also attend two gyms training sessions per week. This squad competes in local, inter-regional and national swim meets. Our gold squad swimmers work towards racing in Swimming New Zealand’s National Age-Group Championships and Division II Championships.
The performance squad is the highest level in our Swimming Academy. These swimmers attend eight or more pool training sessions plus two gyms sessions per week. Pool sessions are available Monday–Saturday and last either 90 or 120 minutes.
The Performance Squad aims to prepare swimmers to compete in international competitions. They race at local, inter-regional, national and international swim meets. Our Performance Squad swimmers work towards competing in the Swimming New Zealand Open Championships and international events.
