Christmas rowing regatta

The Christmas spirit was alive and well.

Last weekend saw 60 rowers compete at the Karpairo Christmas Regatta.

Crews are encouraged to add a Christmas theme to themselves and their boats. It was great to see many of the rowers getting amongst the Christmas Spirit wearing antlers, or Santa hats, or Christmas-themed ribbons in their hair.

The Christmas Regatta is the first major regatta of the season, having a fun-loving Christmas spirit takes some of the pressure off and reminds everyone to have fun!

All students represented St Peter’s and Cambridge Rowing Club well, coming away with 17 boats in A finals and a further 8 boats in B finals. Of the 17 A finals, St Peter’s had 5 wins, 2 seconds and 3 thirds. The U16 Girls squad had a good regatta placing 1st in the U16 Girls Eight and Four and Second in the U16 Girls Quad. The U17 boys had a great doubles race to take first and second before combining to win the U17 Boys Quad.

Harrison McClintock supports the Shore rowing team from Sydney.

We hosted our friends from Shore school in Sydney, who had brought over three eights. Unfortunately, one of the Shore boys was unable to compete so Harrison McClintock stepped up and into their eight to form a composite.

This was a successful venture which has ensured future plans for more composite boats with Shore when they come across the ditch for Christmas Regatta each year.
