Rowing success at NI Rowing Champs

The St Peter’s Intermediate Women's 8+ bronze medal winners.

Despite the less than desirable weather and many delays for lightning, the North Island Rowing Club Championships held over the weekend of 28 - 30 January 2023, managed to get through the full program of racing - a credit to Karapiro Rowing Incorporated and their team.

St Peter’s, racing under Cambridge Rowing Club, achieved three Gold medals, one Silver and two Bronze medals. St Peter’s then joined forces with the Cambridge Club Women to win another gold medal in the Women's Novice Quad.

The St Peter’s Intermediate Women's eight of Olivia Henry, Molly McClintock, Maia Suitte, Sophie Hunter, Regan Wright, Lucy Crampton, Kate Gardner and Zara O'Leary, coxed by Skyla Gillbanks were the first medalists of the regatta, winning the Bronze medal in their event. Day two of finals started with Charlise Davison and Peyton Barnard having a fantastic row to win the Gold medal in the Girls U16 Double.  Shakayla Davison and coxswain Skyla Gillbanks joined Ellie Deane, Briony Fraser and Katie Rasing from Cambridge Rowing Club to put together a magical performance to win Gold in the Women's Novice Quad.

The Under 16 Boy's Quad of Tristan Gillbanks, Finn Scragg, Thomas Nogaj and Ethan Harrison coxed by George Jack put together a solid performance in a tough event to win the Bronze medal.

Next in the lineup was the Intermediate Women's Four of Olivia Henry, Molly McClintock, Maia Suitte, and Sophie Hunter, coxed by Skyla Gillbanks who had a beautiful long and strong row to win the gold medal.

Harrison McClintock, Joshua Yeoman, Khaidar Tuikin and Valentin Barrio-Frojan, coxed by Letizia Hay stayed level-headed to hold off advances from multiple crews to win the Gold in the Men's Club Quad. To finish the day the U16 Girls Quad of Olivia Henry, Maia Suitte, Kate Gardner and Zara O'Leary, coxed by Skyla Gillbanks won silver with Cambridge High coming in very close behind for Bronze. It was fantastic to have both Cambridge schools on the podium together.

This result put Cambridge Rowing Club third overall for the weekend's racing.

The St Peter’s U16 Boy's Quad finished third in their A final, bringing home the bronze medal.
