Senior Production

St Peter’s, Cambridge senior productions are exciting and challenging musical theatre opportunities for our students.

Our senior productions give our students experience with a range of styles and genres. Every year the production that is chosen is intentionally different from the last. Some years have a strong emphasis on dance, others are more focussed on drama; some are popular ‘modern’ musicals, others are more traditional. The 2016 production of Into The Woods had an emphasis on music and drama, with a challenging score by Stephen Sondheim. In 2017 students will experience the thrill of performing Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Starlight Express — a musical performed entirely on rollerskates.

In our senior productions our students experience working with musical theatre professionals. We have a professional director at the helm and an outstanding team of creatives who guide our students through the many facets of production. For example, student musicians work alongside professional musicians in the pit. For some it is their first time playing for a musical and the chance to play alongside a pit musician with 20 years’ experience sees the student’s playing level improve rapidly. Similarly, our student hair and makeup teams are led and trained by a professional theatre hair and makeup specialist. In all facets of production our students’ skills are enhanced and, in some cases, passion for a career in theatre is ignited. This level of support from theatre professionals is unique to St Peter’s.

St Peter’s is renowned for exceptional production values. We emulate the production values of the theatre industry so that our students genuinely gain experience of what working in the industry is like. This experience is a major reason why our students love being involved in our productions as cast or crew. Our reputation for excellence in every aspect of our productions sees the casts and crews performing to full houses — an exhilarating experience in itself.
