At St. Peter’s, we value the many advantages of being multilingual. We support our students to achieve proficiency in academic English while maintaining their home language, broadening their future opportunities.

Multilingual students have a personalised programme of English as an Additional Language (EAL) support, delivered by EAL specialist teachers and based on their level of proficiency in English.

Our suite of support includes:

  • The Koru Academy - An enhanced EAL programme for novice learners in Years 7-10. Koru students have small core classes with an EAL specialist teacher to accelerate language acquisition and choose option courses to complete their timetable.
  • Targeted EAL courses at a range of levels, to build vocabulary, develop skills and refine grammatical accuracy.
  • In class support from our EAL specialists, who collaborate with classroom teachers to ensure students can access information and show their learning.
  • One-to-one or small group tuition aligned to students’ needs and based on level of proficiency.
  • International Languages assistant teachers to provide support for selected home languages.

Boarding provides extra opportunities to develop fluency in an immersive environment through interactions with peers and access to staff who can support with homework.

For our IB Diploma Students, there are opportunities to maintain and develop home language(s) through School Support Self-Taught Literature courses, which can lead toward the IB Bilingual Diploma.

Language fluency grows through interactions with peers. Our extensive programme of co-curricular activities, including cultural, sport and performing arts, provides opportunities for students to practise English in a real world setting.

My teachers always have time open for me if I have any questions or anything I’m confused about. I’m happy to have learned knowledge from these enthusiastic people and enjoyed the two art subjects I have chosen: photography and painting. I learned a lot by processing my portfolio, and I always love to challenge myself. I love St. Peter’s Golf Centre the most, and I had the best coach ever. I will never forget any memories I spent with my friends and coach in golf at school.
