Why be a Day Student at St Peter's?

At St Peter’s, Cambridge over half our students are local, coming to us daily. Day students and their families benefit from the additional facilities, systems and staff that a well-functioning boarding school has. Furthermore, parents can have peace of mind knowing that their child is in a safe environment where all their needs are met.

Life is more centralised with most co-curricular activities happening on site. For activities that happen off site, day students can use the transport that St Peter’s provides for boarders. This means parents of day students do not need to take their children to and from after-school activities.

Day students are able to stay on site until 5pm. This enables students to make the most of co-curricular opportunities at St Peter’s, be they academic, sporting or cultural. The library and day houses are comfortable, well-equipped places for our day students to socialise or work on homework.

Day students have excellent facilities. Day students have their own common rooms, showering and changing rooms, and lockers.

Day students receive quality pastoral care support. The day students, along with boarders, are part of a House system. Students are assigned to a House which is led by a Lead Dean. The Lead Dean also looks after our Year 13 students. Each House also has a Senior Dean for Year 11 - 12 students, and a Junior Dean for Year 9 - 10 students. A Year 7 and Year 8 Dean are available to our preppies. The Deans oversee both pastoral and academic support of the students, and are the primary contact for students and families. Day students also benefit from access to our more specialist pastoral care services, including the school nurse, school psychologist and councillors.

St Peter’s offers extensive bus routes. This makes it possible for day students who live in Cambridge, Hamilton, Matamata, Morrinsville (and Te Aroha extension), Putaruru, and Te Awamutu (and Pirongia extension) to travel to and from school each day. For many families these bus routes make it easy for their children to attend St Peter’s. Students who don't normally take a bus but want to use it on a casual basis can buy tickets from the student centre. Our bus routes cover the following areas; Leamington, Matangi, Coulter, Matamata, Hamilton Central, Hamilton North & West, Morrinsville, Te Aroha, Putaruru, Rototuna, Te Awamutu, Pirongia and Whatawhata.

Day students are provided with a nutritious lunch daily. St Peter’s is proud to offer a wide range of healthy food choices every day, including vegetarian, nut free, egg free and gluten free options. The variety of food on offer ensures that there is something for everyone’s taste.
