Government's National Day of Reflection

Dear Alumni,

Last year we indicated our intention to hold an event for alumni survivors at our school on 12 November 2025 to coincide with the Government’s National Day of Reflection.

However, after further consideration, the school has decided not to run our own event this year.  Instead, we are encouraging alumni to attend remembrance events that may be happening in their own communities or mark the day in their own personal ways.

We wholeheartedly support the Government’s National Day of Reflection and see it as an important acknowledgement of the historical abuses that occurred against people in state care throughout New Zealand.

In future, if St. Peter’s alumni survivors indicate that they would like to have a reflection or remembrance event on campus, we would be open to considering working together on this.

Respectfully,

John Macaskill-Smith
