Waikato Regional Debating Competition

On Sunday 1 March, five of our debating teams travelled to the University of Waikato to compete in the 2026 Waikato Regional Debating Competition. This intensive one-day event brought together 25 teams from throughout the Waikato, ranging from Years 9 to 13, to tackle complex topics and high-pressure arguments.

We are thrilled to announce that one of our Year 11 teams emerged as the overall winners of the tournament, affirming the moot ‘This house believes it is in Europe’s interests to give Greenland to the United States of America’. Congratulations to Divya Patsupati, Anjana Kanchi, and Sophia Wang for this outstanding achievement.

In addition to the team victory, two of our students received individual recognition for their exceptional debating skills:

Anjana Kanchi has been  selected as a reserve for the Waikato regional representative team. She will be supporting the squad as they prepare for the National competition  this May.

Divya Patsupati was  awarded a Highly Commended prize, marking her as one of the top individual speakers of the day.

Thank you to all five teams who represented our school with such professionalism and spirit. We look forward to how they perform in the upcoming tournaments for the rest of the year.
