Duke of Edinburgh

St Peter’s offers the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award, a globally recognised programme providing development opportunities for young people.  Individuals work at the three levels (Bronze, Silver and Gold) to challenge themselves, help others and achieve personal growth.

As an Award Unit, St Peter’s is able to register students for the Award, validate assessors and sign off completed sections.  The Award complements the school’s founding ethos of Body, Mind and Spirit, and many of the daily activities that students participate in can go towards an award – for example, music or dance tuition, sports teams, coaching, or assisting in school or youth groups.

There are now almost 100 students registered across the three levels.

In the Adventurous Journeys, students work with the school's Award Unit Leader, Mr Powell to organise tramps.  Over the last two years these expeditions have included the Kaimai Ranges, Whirinaki Forest, Tongariro National Park, Lake Tarawera in Rotorua, Pirongia and Coromandel Forest Park.  The Award continues to provide encouragement for students to make a significant contribution to the special character and service culture at St Peter’s.

Students can commence their Duke of Edinburgh Award journey in the year they turn 14.  More information about the Duke of Edinburgh International Award can be found here - https://dofehillary.org.nz/
