Financial Redress Reinstated
In September 2025, our school re-opened the financial component of our redress programme for alumni survivors of historical abuse by former staff.
The financial component of our redress programme was closed in 2022.
This followed the Royal Commission of Inquiry into Abuse in Care recommendation that a single, Government-run scheme be established, which would require existing school-based programmes like ours to be closed.
The school’s intention has always been to participate fully in a new, Government-led scheme.
However, in May 2025 the Government declined to follow the Royal Commission’s recommendation about a new, redress scheme. The details and next steps remain uncertain at this time.
The School Trust Board believes the right thing to do is to re-open the financial component of our redress programme. The experiences of survivors matter deeply to us, and we know financial redress may be a vital part of the redress process for some alumni survivors.
Those who apply for financial redress will be treated with compassion, respect, and the utmost confidentiality.
You can find out more about the programme and who is eligible by reading our revised Redress Policy which is available online here. And if you are eligible or would like to discuss aspects of the programme, you can email stpredress@outlook.com.
The School Trust Board remains deeply committed to learning from the past. Our school community, including our valued alumni, can be assured that St Peter’s, Cambridge is a place where student safety and wellbeing is prioritised and protected above all else.
