Applying for Student Visas can be done directly through the online platform provided by Immigration New Zealand.

Students studying for longer than three months are required to have a Student Visa which is applied for via Immigration New Zealand. Students studying for three months or less do not need a Student Visa as they can study on a Tourist Visa.

To get a Student Visa, students need a Confirmed Offer of Place from the school as well as other evidence as required by Immigration to demonstrate that they are a bona fide student in good health and have enough funds to support themselves while in New Zealand.  This may include:

  • Medical certificates
  • School reports
  • Bank statements showing enough money for living expenses
  • Copy of passport showing it is valid for at least three months past the end of your intended stay in New Zealand
  • Travel tickets or money to purchase tickets.

Full details of visa and permit requirements, advice on rights to employment in New Zealand while studying, and reporting requirements are available through Immigration New Zealand, and can be viewed on their website.

Insurance

Offered through St. Peter's

International students must have appropriate and current medical and travel insurance while studying in New Zealand. This is a requirement under The Code of Practice for the Pastoral Care of International Students and a requirement from Immigration New Zealand for granting a student visa.

It is easiest for students to get insurance through the school because we can help them make any necessary claims.  It is possible for students to organise their own insurance in their own country but we recommend checking with us before paying for it.

Our policies are purchased through Unicare. We choose the best option for each student depending on the study period. Pre-existing conditions are not automatically covered. If required, students must complete a medical assessment after receiving their policy document.

Insurance

Offered through other providers

If international students wish to purchase their own insurance elsewhere, the School needs to be provided with a copy of the insurance certificate and policy wordings (in English) so we may determine whether the insurance provides sufficient cover for the student’s medical, travel and potential repatriation needs.

If, prior to enrolment, it is decided that a student does not have adequate insurance, the student will be required to take out additional cover to meet the standards set down by the school, the New Zealand Government and Immigration New Zealand.
