Rowers defend Muudi Cup

Our junior rowers have won the Muudi Cup for the 8th year in a row!

On Sunday December 10, 46 rowers headed off to Ngatea to defend the Muudi Cup.

Hauraki Plains College host the event and Takapuna Grammar come down from Auckland. The three schools start the day with a 20min erg relay and then venture on the muddy waters of the Piako River for a 400m sprint and 1500m race series in doubles, quads and eights.

We started off the day in 3rd place after the erg relay, but as the day progressed the team picked up enough wins to come home in 1st place by 7 points over Hauraki, with Takapuna back in 3rd.

Before the competition though, the young rowers went into camp mode after the junior prizegiving on Friday. The team went for a nice row on the sunny waters of Lake Karapiro before moving into the boarding houses at school.

On the Saturday they squeezed in some morning rows with a break at Waipuke Park, then ran a triathalon back at school in the afternoon. For this the students participated in a 250m swim, 1 lap run and 2500m erg.

The senior squad had team-building camps in the Kaweka Ranges last week and are now training at Mangakino ahead of the Christmas Regatta.
