Launching our Musical Theatre Academy

St Peter’s School is excited to announce their new Musical Theatre Academy which launched at the beginning of Term 1 2018.

The Musical Theatre Academy is unique and highly specialized, providing students with intensive vocational training outside of academic classes.

Lead by a highly experienced team of theatre practitioners, the academy will work to develop students into highly skilled triple threat performers.

The programme will be led by industry professional Scot Hall from Cambridge, who has had many lead roles in various productions, recently including Les Miserables and Mary Poppins, both of which were staged last year by Hamilton Operatic Society.

Performing Arts Director Victoria Trenwith said the programme would give students opportunities locally and internationally.

“After researching programmes at top UK stage and Performing Arts schools we have managed to create a programme that suits our students. It will open pathways for their future studies at tertiary institutions or give them performance opportunities locally and further afield.”

She said students would develop skills in music, dance, acting, and all the special nuances that are to be expected with musical theatre.

“I am thrilled with the teaching staff we have secured for this programme too,” she said.

New Zealand musical theatre director David Sidwell has been confirmed as Academy Advisor. He is joined by Julia Booth in the role of vocal consultant and certified Estill Master Teacher, and Michaela Gilling, a dance teacher and experienced musical theatre performer.

This year the St Peter’s school production is Miss Saigon (School Edition) and it has a cast of over 70 students. It will be held from May 4 – 11, 2018 at St Peter’s School.
