The Morris House Camp Experience

A highlight for many of our Year 9 students this year has been the Morris House Camp Experience. As the final camp finished this week, we have enjoyed reflecting on the journey undertaken by our Year 9s in completing this programme.

In short, the camp is a chance for Year 9s to experience two weeks in boarding; living on site, eating, playing, growing, together, and going on an adventure together to National Park. It is a great way for the students to bond together and experience something different from their usual day-to-day.

During the camp, there is a strong focus on wellbeing, ensuring the students understand the importance of sleeping, eating and exercise, as well as gratitude, doing things for others and being involved in the community. The students also learn the value of being in a team and using teamwork to accomplish something. Servant leadership is another key area, specifically, leading by example. This extends into leading themselves, their learning, leading their own wellbeing, and ultimately developing resilience.

Not to be forgotten, the students have learnt important practical life skills such as changing a bike/car tyre, operating a lawnmower, and diagnosing problems.

The Camp "adventures" provide the opportunity for students to commence their Duke of Ed, Bronze award - exploring service, adventure and building skills. Inspiration arrives in the form of varying guest speakers and the opportunity to interact with senior staff outside of the usual rules of engagement!

Congratulations to our Year 9 Class, we have enjoyed seeing you thrive!
