My Year 8 Experience Week

Five days; probably the most fun days of this term! Whether doing the overnight stay or on the luge, we were always occupied with fun activities. Over the span of those five days, we did numerous activities.

A boarding experience in Morris House with Mr and Mrs Strawbridge was run alongside our daytime experiences, with Monday being the first night of a boarding experience for the girls and Wednesday being the first for the boys, with an extra addition of pizza after dinner for each group. Each night was a fun ‘sleepover’ at school and followed by busy days.

Monday began with a waterslide down the embankment, so much soapy fun. Tuesday was filled with climbing and kayaking as well as paddleboarding at Wero water park. Many of us pushed ourselves out of our comfort zones to get as high as we could climbing. Tuesday left us tired but ready for Wednesday, our Leadership Day, which was timed very well for the rain. We had Burn Bright visit us for the day and give us tips and information on how to better lead ourselves and others, telling us that leaders don’t need badges and A+ friendships are key. With Games full of teamwork and activities full of discussion we learnt how to be a better leader, with or without a badge and to think about our own strengths. Thursday, probably the most fun day of the week was filled with moving and exercise at Skyline Rotorua. With friendly and helpful stuff, the day was enjoyable and organised. We did three luges each and a zipline as well, racing down the courses and ziplining at speed.

With only Friday left the leadership group planned a pool party, with drinks and ice cream! Thank you to our teachers who joined us for the week with the help of our great gappies on Tuesday and Thursday. The Year 8 experience week was a memorable experience many will not forget.
