Service at St. Peter’s smashing goals

Our students continue to serve both our school and community in meaningful ways.

Service to the school

As I write, I’m aware of the powerful sounds of our Kapa Haka group practicing just outside, preparing to welcome Japanese visitors to our school. Their haka and waiata echo across the campus from the balcony of the student centre—a proud expression of culture and identity.

This is their service on behalf of our school.

Everywhere I look, students are generously volunteering their time—from coaching and refereeing on the sports fields to quietly tutoring their peers in more peaceful corners. Whether it is during school open days or parent-teacher interviews, our students are ready and eager to step up—touring, guiding, and leading. They are truly serving our school community in countless meaningful ways.

Service to the Community

Over past terms our Year 13 Service Ambassadors have been actively engaged across 3 year levels, leading a variety of meaningful initiatives with junior students. From launching a donation drive for Kids in Need to packing essential items for the mothers supported by Loving Arms, our young leaders have been gaining a deeper understanding of human hardship—and how we can use there sources at our disposal to help ease the burden of others.

Weekly, a faithful team of Year 8 students have been weeding and planting the gardens in the agriculture department and harvesting fruit for Cambridge Community House. Our thanks to Mrs McGuire who has assisted these actions. Another team of Year 11 students weekly pack fruit & vegetables for local families aided by Mr Martyn.

This weekend we head out again to Waikato Hospital, sharing with patients in the Hospital Chapel Service. Some students guided by Miss Lin will be leading the music for the service while others will lead prayers and readings. Patients often comment on what a blessing our young people are to them.

House Charities

Thank you to our students and families who have supported our House Charities this year.

Swears House raised $21,168 at the Relay for Life in Term 1.  Additional funds have been raised in our recent Daffodil Day donut sale.

Hanna House raised $11,508 for World Vision through students who participated in the 40-hour challenge

Chandler House had a successful can drive replenishing our local Salvation Army food bank.

Funds raised will be put toward the purchase of meat.

Thornton House in addition to anon-uniform day in Term 1, look forward to Spirit Week next week, where the Colour Run will support our international partnership with Mvumbi School in a fun and meaningful way.

These external partnerships within our wider community remind us to lift our eyes to see beyond ourselves—to recognise the needs around us and the impact we can have when we act with compassion and purpose.  We aim not only to encourage our students to participate but to do so with grace, humility, and compassion—with patience and empathy, steadfast dedication, and willing hearts.

The Scriptures remind us in Hebrews 13 v 16

"And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased."
